Watch: B’ZEOS using seaweed as plastic alternative

B’ZEOS is on a mission to replace plastic packaging with packaging derived from seaweed.

Globally, 350m tonnes of plastic packaging is produced annually, with only 9% recycled. Currently, 79% of plastic is landfilled or ends up in the environment, resulting in devastation of ecosystems and the generation of harmful micro-plastics.

The company’s journey started in 2017, when Innovation Norway granted a fund to develop an edible straw. This led to the decision to pivot to develop flexible packaging solutions. Since then, B’ZEOS has started two collaboration periods with Nestlé and has been granted its first EU grant.

At the annual Hello Tomorrow deeptech event in Paris, Kela Feller, communications and partnership manager at B’ZEOS, gave us an overview of the company and its work.
